Official duathlon distances
USA Triathlon’s current multisport distance table defines four principal duathlon categories. Each follows the same basic sequence: a first run, a bike leg, and a second run. The totals show how much the bike distance changes as the category becomes longer.
| Category | First run | Bike | Second run | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sprint | 5 km | 20 km | 2.5 km | 27.5 km |
| Standard | 10 km | 40 km | 5 km | 55 km |
| Middle | 10 km | 60 km | 10 km | 80 km |
| Long | 10 km | 150 km | 30 km | 190 km |
According to USA Triathlon’s Discover Multisport distance table, the sprint duathlon starts with 5 km of running, continues for 20 km by bike, and finishes with 2.5 km of running, for 27.5 km overall. The standard format doubles the first run to 10 km, uses a 40 km bike leg, and ends with 5 km, totaling 55 km.
The middle category keeps the first run at 10 km but extends the bike leg to 60 km and the second run to 10 km. Its listed total is 80 km. The long category also begins with a 10 km run, but its 150 km bike leg and 30 km final run produce a 190 km total.
The bike leg is therefore 20 km in the sprint category, 40 km in the standard category, 60 km in the middle category, and 150 km in the long category. Those official figures are useful when comparing race descriptions, because a familiar label such as “standard” or “long” carries a specific distance structure in USA Triathlon’s table.
2024 standard duathlon championship
The 2024 USA Triathlon Standard Duathlon National Championships used the standard 10 km run, 40 km bike, and 5 km run format. The overall men’s title went to Alex Arman in 1:59:02, while Dominique Stasulli won the overall women’s title in 2:17:07. These results are reported in USA Triathlon’s championship coverage.
The age-group results show a broad range of winning times across the divisions listed in that report:
- Gavin Adkins won the men’s 13–19 division in 2:22:32.
- Grayson Singer won men’s 20–24 in 2:10:04.
- Colin Catlin won men’s 25–29 in 2:09:18.
- Anthony McDill won men’s 30–34 in 2:07:26.
- Amanda Jordan won women’s 35–39 in 2:26:57.
- Juan Cortes won men’s 40–44 in 2:00:49.
- Heather Camp won women’s 45–49 in 2:22:32.
- Gary Holt won men’s 50–54 in 2:01:05.
- Rachel Crunk won women’s 50–54 in 2:19:49.
- Joe Hegge won men’s 55–59 in 2:06:47.
- Susan Pierson won women’s 60–64 in 2:28:20.
- Christian Evans won men’s 65–69 in 2:18:52.
The listed times are championship results for their specific divisions, not a general estimate of how long every athlete takes to complete a standard duathlon. They also should not be treated as directly comparable to winter events or long-course events with different course formats.
2025 winter duathlon results
The 2025 USA Triathlon Winter National Championships used ski-based formats rather than the ordinary bike leg. The sprint winter duathlon consisted of a 3 km run and 6 km ski. The intermediate winter duathlon consisted of a 6 km run and 12 km ski. Results and formats are documented in USA Triathlon’s 2025 Winter National Championships report.
Stephen Eles won the overall male sprint winter duathlon title in 34:44. Autumn Ray won the overall female sprint title in 41:44. For the intermediate race, Kevin Konczak won the overall male title in 1:14:06, and Jill Sorenson won the overall female title in 1:24:57.
Several age-group results illustrate how much the published times differed between divisions and formats. Tristan Thomas won the men’s 12-and-under sprint division in 2:02:10. In the sprint 30–34 divisions, Dan Neilson won the men’s race in 56:58 and Marisa Borchardt won the women’s race in 1:09:24. For the intermediate event, Christian Botting won men’s 45–49 in 2:03:53, while Patricia Smaldone won women’s 55–59 in 2:08:29. Peter Borchardt won men’s 60–64 in the sprint event in 1:24:48.
These are winter championship statistics with a run-and-ski structure. A sprint winter time should not be read as a performance benchmark for the 27.5 km sprint run-bike-run category, since the disciplines and total distances are different.
2026 long-course measurements
The 2026 USA Triathlon Long Course National Championships used a course measured in miles. The first run was 3.1 miles, the bike leg was 56 miles, and the second run was 13.1 miles. The bike course had 1,500 feet of elevation gain. The measurements are reported in USA Triathlon’s 2026 Long Course National Championships coverage.
The published measurements are important because the race’s course description does not use the same kilometer figures as USA Triathlon’s general long-duathlon distance table. The general table lists a 10 km first run, 150 km bike, and 30 km second run, totaling 190 km. The 2026 championship measurements instead identify a 3.1-mile opening run, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile closing run, plus 1,500 feet of bike-course elevation gain. Those figures describe that 2026 championship course and should remain labeled as course measurements rather than generalized category definitions.
World Triathlon rankings
The World Triathlon duathlon ranking page updated September 21, 2026, lists Thibaut De Smet first among elite men with 964.89 points and Merle Brunnée first among elite women with 966.66 points. The ranking figures and gaps below come from the World Triathlon Duathlon Rankings leaderboard.
| Rank | Elite men | Points | Gap to leader | Elite women | Points | Gap to leader |

Among the elite men listed, Emile Blondel Hermant was second with 875.11 points, 89.78 points behind the leader. Mohamed Nemsi was third with 853.64 points and a 111.25-point gap, while Baptiste Domanico was fourth with 803.31 points and a 161.58-point gap.
Among the elite women listed, Rachel Brown was second with 894.16 points, 72.50 points behind Brunnée. Ghizlane Assou was third with 720.53 points and a 246.13-point gap. Manal Ahmed was fourth with 531.17 points and a 435.49-point gap. The page date matters: these values describe the leaderboard updated September 21, 2026, rather than an all-time ranking.
Participation and repeat-title statistics
The 2026 USA Triathlon Multisport National Championships Festival also provides club and multi-event participation figures. USA Triathlon’s festival report states that Team Zoot recorded the highest club participation with 35 finishes. Team Zoot had 24 finishes in 2025, so the report records an increase of 11 finishes year over year.
Participation and competitive scoring were reported separately in the festival statistics. RogueTri recorded 95 competitive points for the highest competitive team score. TriKats recorded 103 total points, made up of 92 competitive points and 11 participation points, for the overall club team score. These categories measure different aspects of team performance: finishes, competitive points, participation points, and total points should not be treated as interchangeable.
Individual repeat-title statistics also appeared in the 2026 festival report. Lance Fargo won seven events, including the Draft Legal Sprint Duathlon. Rebecca Bell won five events, including the Super Sprint Duathlon time trial. The report identifies the included duathlon events, but the figures refer to event wins across the festival rather than a single duathlon finishing time.
Together, the club and individual figures show several ways to describe duathlon participation: Team Zoot’s 35 finishes measure club presence, RogueTri’s 95 competitive points measure competitive scoring, TriKats’ 103 total points combine two scoring components, and Fargo’s seven wins and Bell’s five wins measure repeated event success. Keeping those units separate is essential when interpreting multisport statistics.
